Trash Capsules: Archives of Food, Illness, and Diaspora began as an evening of performance and installations at New Women Space that I co-curated with Alexander Enzo Hope in August 2017: [Intersectional inquiries into chronically ill bodies/waste processes/ritual/food practices/modes of resistance/assimilation/preserving cultural memory.] This led to us co-curating and installing Alexander’s work at Silent Barn and continuing to collaborate on chronically ill movement scores from then on. The artists featured at the inaugural event were Jahmekya Birhan, Pelenakeke Brown, Barbara E Byrd, Sarit Frishman, Zoey Hart, Alex Enzo Hope, Simone Johnson, Sarah LeWarn, Jesse Pratt López, Angelina Marriott, Denise Nguyen, Teshale Nuer, Julia Lucrecia Taveras, Ricky Tucker, DJ STACEY blood TRANSFUSION, and Hanna Wellish.
